After a successful competition in the morning at the local DBACT regatta, the club packed up paddles and headed to Jindabyne to take part in the Jindabyne Flowing Festival 2022.
Dragon boats lined up on shore, with their colourful heads and tails, were a sight to see and music from local bands could be heard from the festival stage. Crews from Canberra, Albury/Wodonga, the South Coast and rural NSW were competing and after all sweeps were advised of the race rules, it was game on. Two strong laps around the marked 2km course for our mixed and women's teams finished off an impressive day of paddling. It was then back to our accommodation and the pub bistro for a great meal and refreshing drink before hitting the sack after a very long day.
Day two and Lake Jindabyne looked spectacular with a cool mist on the water and calm serene conditions. Unfortunately, it was not to last and organisers only managed to get through the first heats in all categories before the winds picked up and the festival was eventually called off.
That didn't stop the Griffins having a fantastic weekend with some memorable funny moments, lots of photo opportunities and the Griffins playlist playing in the background 'geeing' everyone up for their races. We had some mixed results in our races but came away with two hard fought third places in both the mixed and men's 200m races. Impressive effort by every single paddler over the two day festival.
The Griffins thank the organisers for a great festival and look forward to returning again in two years time.
